I went looking for Brooklyn Deli to get my favorite, Brooklyn Sammich. when I arrived I found Brooklyn Deli closed. Another customer there for the same thing, told me that she was just informed by a neighboring business that Brooklyn Deli had merged with Pug Dog Diner on North Second. It's a bit out of my way, but I had to have my SAMMICH! Pug Dog Dinner's location is in an old/dated building on the west side of North Second street. The building looks like it's left over from the 50's and could use some serious renovations. When you walk in, it reminds me of a old diner that just didn't keep up with the times. The atmosphere is not one that most would appreciate unless you like the show Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. They have the almost complete menu of Brooklyn Deli sandwiches. Minus my second favorite, the Cuban. (Manager if you read this, yea... I know I can order it with out the pork, but it's not the same! But you were awesome for offering and trying to convince me it was.) The quality of the sandwiches is the same, amazing, wonderful and some of the best in the state. Awesome stuff. Honestly, get the Brooklyn Sammich and you wont' be disappointed. At another location I tried the Pug Dog, their specialty. It's a hot dog wrapped in bacon with various toppings on it. If you like hot dogs you won't be disappointed, I'm not a huge hot dog fan, and I liked it. That says a lot for the quality of the dog. The service was a little slow when I was there, but they were getting used to a new kitchen, the management/staff had only been there about a week so I'm giving them some slack because I recognize the learning curve. Now, I'm giving them 5 stars just for the food alone. I don't know that I would stay and eat at the location, but if you love sandwiches. This is a must.

Went in tonight for ice cream and had a great experience! All of the workers were friendly, and the ice cream was great! I highly recommend the cannoli shake!!

First time there...taken with a lover of the Pug Dog hot dogs of all shapes and sizes...here's how it went.. 1. Hot dog seemed as if it was over soaked in water. - too soft for my taste...I like a good POP when I bite into a hot dog. 2. Our "server" seemed lost, stoned, completely idiotic...possibly just off the crazy train and had NO idea what the heck he was doing...in fact, he forgot a simple order for ice cream and had to come back to the table to ask. And then looked at me like I was crazy coming to find HIM for my check...then again, the whole STONED thing sounds right... 3. The owner (maybe) was sitting in there doing a whole lot of nothing...except putting down staff and being semi rude to a customer or two... I may go back...we will see...but this place only has one chance left for me...

If you don't like this place, we can not be friends. It is a hot dog stand themed after, what else, but DOGS. And it is adorable and friendly and everything you could possibly want in a hot dog stand. I know they do have some seating inside but I've always ordered at the window and sat outside with my dogs (my real dogs and my food dogs!). The people in the window are always patient while you're deciding between a basket of pups (mini corn dogs) or a dalmation (a spicy hotdog) or whatever else your heart desires. The food is always delivered speedy and hot! They have a few veggie options, too! Beyond being a hot dog stand, Pug Dog Diner doubles as an ice cream stand which is perfect because what else could you want after you a hot dog than soft serve ice cream, AM I RIGHT? There's also a really cute photo-op on the side of the building. Candy red and white stripes make the perfect backdrop for any picture. For realsies you guys, this place is cute as hell.

I like it because its a hot dog stand. Nice hometown feel. If you can sit outside its great. My wife hates it because its "a gross weird hot dog stand". All the dogs and fries are delicious. Underwhelming banana split. Bam 2.5 stars. Ill go back.

I ate here for lunch today, being that I was up in the area for work and had read the previous reviews. What a mistake that was! First off, I was expecting to walk up to a counter and place my order and sit down and eat. Instead, I sat at a table and a waitress came over to take my order. I mean come on, do you really need a waitress...couldn't she just stand behind the counter and take my order? She must be a little sister of the owner and was desperate for a job. So she came over a few times to make sure I was good with my Pepsi until the 15 minute wait for my chili dog was up!! The saddest part was that the quality of the dog and chili was equal to my homemade Oscar Meyer weiner dogs with Hormel Chili poured on top! But I ended up paying over $6.50 + $2.00 tip for a joke of a hot dog and a blaaaw atmosphere! I will never go back here & you shouldn't waste your time or money either! I think all of the elderly people that were eating at the tables around me were only there because they had no where else to be. That or they have lost all sense of taste.

I promise the next time I visit this place, I will write a review on a veggie dog, since I don't care for the real deal. I did have a decent omelet and home-style taters. But I have to say, Pug Dog Diner definitely wins for a few reasons: 1. My mom, dad and grandma ALL had different themed hot dogs and really loved them. These dogs come with a toasted, buttered bun and cheese and love. Lots of love. 2. The types of hot dogs that you can have are almost endless. Each one is named after a, you guessed it, breed. Very cute. 3. Affordable. The average meal is under $6. This place is hard to miss with the huge photograph sign of a pug's face. The atmosphere is very old-school diner, right down to the customers and decorations. Check it out if you're passing through.

Met my husband for lunch here and used Groupon. It was OK, not sure if I would come back.. My husband had the hot dog and it looked like something I can make at home. I had the turkey burger and some crispy fries. Turkey burger was greasy, again, something I could have made at home. Not sure if I want to come back.. The pictures of the pugs were cute..

It's called a diner, but it's more a hot dog stand than anything by appearence. Ok, so yeah, you better believe there's damn pug dog pictures everywhere, just to warn you. I got a burger and fries, and it was all good. Like really good. The fries were fresh cut, not soggy. My mom got a side of mashed potatoes, were salty as shit. She enjoyed herself minus the taters. It's just ok.

I have eaten at Pug Dog a couple of times and both times the food was really good. It was inexpensive, too. You can't beat that combo!

We actually visited the Pug Dog Diner located in the Harley Davidson store in Rockford. I had the house special hot dog called the Pug Dog. It is a hot dog wrapped in bacon and deep fried, it's then topped with ham and cheese and mayo. I'm glad I tried it, it was different but good. I would choose a Chicago dog over this product but it is worth a try just because of the bacon! The fries were very good, they were not over salted or over cooked, it was a good lunch before going into the Harley store. Only thing I was disappointed in was the can pop, they don't have a soda fountain.

If you're looking for quality ice cream, this is not the place. I'm pretty positive they use nonfat or 2% in their machines. My twist cone was a slushy watery mess that melted through the cone. The service was poor. I waited fifteen minutes for a twist cone and a flurry with one person in front of me, and the entire staff was complaining about their job the entire time I was inside. I don't believe I will be returning.
